The Cardiovascular System in Anemia

characteristic. Bamberger’ nearly a century ago pointed out that cardiac enlargement is found in many patients suffering from anemia. The extent to which the functional activity of the cardiovascular apparatus is affected by anemia, however, is not so generally appreciated. Changes in the heart and circulation develop in part in response to needs arising from the lack of hemoglobin and thus of oxygen per unit of blood, and in part as a result of the influence of the anemia on the heart itself. Rapid development of anemia is accompanied by shortness of breath, tachycardia, and pallor. Very severe anemia, if produced quickly, as after severe blood loss, results in shock. Here we deal with a failure of adjustments to the lack of oxygentransporting material as well as with the effects produced by a sharp reduction in total blood volume. In cases in which serious cardiac damage is already present,

Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia preceding the Diagnosis of Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma
In this study, a 2.5-year-old boy suffering from a febrile seizure with normal laboratory tests and a history of immune hemolytic anemia was examined. Brain MRI demonstrated some tumors in the frontal, parietal, and occipital lobe that corroborated the pathology results of primary central nervous system lymphoma for the patient. The patient was treated with high- dose of Methotrexate. Our re...
متن کاملIntracardiac Thrombosis in Sickle Cell Disease
In patients with sickle cell disease, thrombotic microangiopathy is a rare complication. Also in sickle cell disease, intracardiac thrombus formation without structural heart diseases or atrial arrhythmias is a rare phenomenon. We herein describe a 22-year-old woman, who was a known case of sickle cell-βthalassemia, had a history of recent missed abortion, and was admitted with a vaso-occlusive...

Abstract Background and Objectives Considering with the variability in the rate of blood and blood consumption in different medical centers, study of the transfusion practices in hospitals can affect the policies and planning related to the transfusion management. The aim of this study was to evaluate the transfusion practices in Rajaie cardiovascular hospital. Materials and Methods In th...
متن کاملThe Effect of Maternal Anemia and Umbilical Cord Cortisol Level on Birth Weight and Length
Background & Aims: Maternal anemia in pregnancy is a considerable risk factor for both mother and fetus. Growth retardation, intra uterine fetal death, maternal cardiovascular symptoms and reduction in blood supply are among outcomes of maternal anemia. Since there are different reports about the relationship between low maternal hemoglobin level and low birght weight, the precent study was des...
متن کاملA review of anemia as a cardiovascular risk factor in patients with myelodysplastic syndromes.
BACKGROUND Anemia is an important cause of morbidity in MDS patients, principally through increased cardiovascular disease. Transfusion status has been seen to be a significant prognostic factor for disease progression and mortality, yet the relationship between anemia levels and cardiovascular disease is not well understood. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to review the published literature on th...
متن کاملApplication of a Direct Model Reference Adaptive Controller (DMRAC) in a Nonlinear Cardiovascular Model
The objective of this study is to design a robust direct model reference adaptive controller (DMRAC) for a nonlinear cardiovascular model over a range of plant parameters representing a variety of physical conditions. The direct adaptive controllers used in thisd study require the plant to be almost strictly positive real (ASPR) that is, for a plant to be controlled there must exist a feedback ...
